ABOUT THE TAAIS

The Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society (TAAIS) was formed in Fort Worth, Texas on May 12, 1984, and represents nearly 200 board-certified Allergists and Immunologists in Texas. The Society's goals are to promote the highest standards in Allergy and Clinical Immunology through:

1. Improving the care of patients suffering from allergic, asthmatic and immunologic disorders.

2. Promoting patient and physician education on allergic, asthmatic and immunologic disorders.

3. Increasing the awareness among physicians and the general public alike about the subspecialty of
allergy and immunology.

TAAIS PROJECTS

MEETINGS

The TAAIS sponsors up to six physician education meetings each year, whereby physicians can earn valuable CME credit hours. Our Annual Meeting and Annual Subspecialist Meeting are both held in the Spring and have traditionally been geared towards allergists and immunologists. Throughout the year, the Society sponsors four regional CME seminars for primary care physicians in the Houston/Galveston, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio and West Texas regions. Lastly, the TAAIS sponsors a Primary Care Residents Conference each summer for internal medicine, pediatric and family practice residents in training.

POLLEN AND MOLD COUNTS IN TEXAS

This booklet graphically illustrates pollen and mold counts by regions in Texas. The graphs track annual counts for grasses, weeds, molds and trees. In addition, the booklet contains a listing of board-certified allergists and immunologists by region. It can be utilized by allergists/immunologists, primary care physicians, the media and the general public alike to determine what allergens are high in areas of Texas at certain times of the year.

WEB PAGE

Please visit our site on the Internet at http://www.texasallergy.org. The web page contains information about our membership, upcoming meetings, past newsletters, patient information, an allergy office administrators section and links to related organizations.

PUBLIC EDUCATION PROJECTS

The TAAIS is constantly striving to keep physicians, patients and the general public armed with the most current information available about allergic, asthmatic and immunologic disorders. We distribute printed information annually to the statewide media regarding asthma, ragweed season and spring tree allergy season. In addition, we have implemented radio ad campaigns advising the public on when to consult an allergist.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

The membership directory, published annually, is a handy networking tool for our members across the state.

NEWSLETTER

Our quarterly newsletter, mailed to nearly 200 TAAIS member physicians, describes society activities, programs and meetings, national issues, practice standards, public education projects, and professional information of interest to allergists.

MEMORIAL FOUNDATION

This program raises funds each year to support scientific research proposals submitted by allergy fellows-in-training in the five training programs affiliated with medical schools in Texas. One research grant is awarded annually.

AAI CAMPS

The TAAIS has been a strong supporter of summer allergy, asthma, and immunology camps for children across our state. Every year, we raise funding which enables children to attend all 9 camps in Texas. These camps enable the children to learn more about their condition in a fun and non-threatening environment.

WHAT IS AN ALLERGIST/IMMUNOLOGIST?
